  8. INFORMATION
  9.  
  10. HTML Mapper is a Windows 3.1 utility which helps a WWW site
  11. manager organize and maintain the links throughout all of its
  12. HTML pages.  The utility displays a tree showing what files the
  13. links point to.  It will also flag missing, circular, and offsite
  14. links.  These maps can be printed or saved in an ASCII text
  15. format.

  19. HTML Mapper is currently distributed as shareware.  To register
  20. and receive the next version by snail mail, please send $20 to:

  35. HTML MAPPER DEVELOPMENT
  36.  
  37. Current work is being done to extend the program in the following
  38. ways:
  39.         
  40.         1) Double clicking on missing file name will whisk you
  41.            into an edit mode so you can change the HTML link.
  42.  
  43.         2) Class Viewer like interface for displaying the link
  44.            information instead of directory viewer.
  45.  
  46.         3) Apple Macintosh, X-Windows, Versions.
  47.  
  48.         4) Checks to see if offsite links still exist with TCP/IP
  49.            protocols.

  54. KNOWN BUGS.
  55.  
  56.         1) Does not seem to print in the OS/2 for Windows    
  57.            environment.

  60. INSTALLATION
  61.  
  62.  1) Create a directory named HTMLMAP and copy HTMLMAP.EXE file
  63.     into it.
  64.  
  65.  2) Start Windows if you are not already running it.  
  66.  
  67.  3) Next create an icon for the HTMLMAP.EXE application.
  68.  
  69.         1) Select File,New from the Program Manager menu bar.
  70.         2) Select New Item the click on the OK button.
  71.         3) Enter the following :

  73.              Description: HTML Mapper
  74.              Commandline: <DRIVE>\HTMLMAP\HTMLMAP.EXE
  75.              Working Dir: <DRIVE>\HTMLMAP
  76.  
  77.         4) Click on the change icon button and select the 66 
  78.            icon.
  79.         5) Select OK until you are back to the Program Manager.
  80.         6) Your icon should now appear in your current group.

  82.  4) To start HTML Mapper, double click on the icon.

  85. USING HTML MAPPER
  86.  
  87.  1) To start building a map first select File, New Map... from 
  88.     the HTML Mapper menu bar.
  89.  
  90.  2) Fill in the dialog as follows : 
  91.  
  92.         1) Home Page File Name : Enter the file name like        
  93.            HomePG.HTM
  94.            NOTE: If the file is in a directory off the Base
  95.            Directory you must type PICTURES\HomePG.HTM. Where C:\
  96.            might be the base directory. Only files with HTM
  97.            extensions will be searched.
  98.  
  99.         2) Base Directory : Enter the base directory from which
  100.            all other files and directories are located. 
  101.                             
  102.            NOTE: A base directory may be simple like C:\ or might
  103.            point to D:\HTML\.  All other directory and file
  104.            references must be found in a sub directory of the 
  105.            base directory. 
  106.            So the Home page file above would be found at
  107.                  D:\HTML\PICTURES\HomePG.HTM.

  109.         3) Site Address :
  110.            Enter the name of the site from which your computer 
  111.            resides. This will help the program determine if the
  112.            link referenced to is an offsite link.
  113.  
  114.         4) Server Type : Enter the class of server you are using.
  115.            NOTE : This must be one of the following : HTTP, FTP,
  116.            FILE, TELNET.
  117.  
  118.         5) Once you have entered all this information in click on
  119.            the Draw Map button.
  120.  
  121.         6) At any time you may cancel the File Parsing or Toggle
  122.            (Alt+Tab) to another Windows program.  
  123.            NOTE: If you cancel some of the file links may be
  124.            reported as found when they may really be missing.
  125.            This is because the program did not get a chance to
  126.            evaluate the links state due to the interruption.

  128.         7) Once the map is built you may save it as an ASCII Text
  129.            file or print the file with the font of your          
  130.            selection.  You may also make another map while still
  131.            keeping the current map.
